Last night Brett and I headed for Club Nokia to check out some up and coming artists at the 2012 Warped Tour Kick-Off Party. I’ve been to a few in previous years, and while most bands are usually duds when it comes to turning me on, there’s always that one exception that just seems to blow me away. The perfect example would be the kick-off party of ‘08. We went for the Aggrolites, but walked out of the Key Club as genuine Katy Perry fans. This was before she was covered in make-up and playing on every awards show and radio station across the country. She was simply a cute girl in a dress with a great voice and some catchy songs that were gaining popularity online. I had no idea she’d turn into the character she is now.
Warped Tour seems to be a platform for alot of artists that are trying to make their way into your record collection, and quite honestly that’s one of my favorite things about the tour. I love walking away from the crowds and watching some random local band on the Kevin Says stage. I love it even more when I walk away turned on to a new group. I don’t usually do reviews of anything, but I felt like I should say a few things about some of the bands we saw last night. As usual, while some disappointed me, others stood out.
